The new Gibson management has decided to re-engage Tom Murphy directly within the Gibson Custom Shop to create a new generation of aging techniques that are even more accurate and realistic than in the past: a decisive break from previous production methods and a remarkable leap forward in terms of quality results.

The Murphy Lab perfectly recreates, using natural, non-manual processes, the same aging conditions of the finish found on original vintage instruments. In particular, this Gibson Custom Murphy Lab 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue Light Aged faithfully reproduces the legendary 1959 Les Paul Standard, the year the first figured tops were introduced, in a finish inspired by the renowned publication "Beauty of The Burst," featuring a hand-selected flamed top.
