First introduced in 1960, the Gibson Hummingbird is one of the most distinctive and beloved acoustic guitars ever made. Painstakingly handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana by Gibson's expert acoustic luthiers, the new Gibson Hummingbird Special offers players an American-made Gibson Hummingbird at a very attractive price. The Hummingbird Special features a traditional square-shouldered body, built with solid mahogany for the back and sides, and a solid Sitka spruce top, reinforced with our traditional scalloped X-bracing. This combination of woods produces a warm, balanced sound with an excellent dynamic range, perfect for all styles of music. The ‘concert depth’ body is slightly thinner than the body of a standard Hummingbird, giving it a finer, tighter bass response that blends perfectly into the mix and also makes it easier to hold. The neck is attached to the body with a dovetail joint and, as with all Gibson acoustic guitars, is heat-glued. The neck has a comfortable round profile and the rosewood fingerboard has a 12-inch radius and features pearl parallelogram inlays, one of the visual features that make the Hummingbird easily recognisable. The fingerboard is fitted with 20 standard frets. The traditional rosewood bridge is fitted with a TUSQ® saddle, and the saddle and bridge pins are also TUSQ. High-quality Grover® Rotomatic® tuning machines guarantee rock-solid tuning stability. The pickguard features a simplified version of the famous Hummingbird pickguard graphic. The Hummingbird Special is finished in satin nitrocellulose lacquer in Satin Vintage Cherry Sunburst and Satin Wine Red. It's fitted with an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze piezo pickup under the bridge and an active preamp with an easily accessible volume control mounted in the rosette, so it's ready for stage and studio as soon as you take it out of the top-of-the-range soft case supplied.
