The V16 reed, launched in 1993, was designed to meet the needs of jazz musicians across the Atlantic. With its thick tip and long table, the V16 reed produces a bright sound and allows for punchy attacks. Its calibration is slightly stronger than average, but when combined with a jazz mouthpiece, it will produce a rich and deep sound.

An eco-friendly, artisanal process.
From planting the reeds to packaging them in flow packs that protect the reeds from humidity variations, Vandoren controls every stage of production of its famous reed blades. Cut by hand, the reeds are carried on the backs of men to the edge of the reed bed. They are then stripped, sun-dried, sawn, bowed, tabled, bevelled, etc. No less than fifteen distinct production stages produce a considerable amount of reed waste, which is reused as fertilizer for the reed beds or as fuel to heat the factory.
