The ZZ reed combines the rounded tip of the V16 with the flexible blade of the Java to achieve extraordinary colour and richness of sound. Introduced in 2002, this reed meets the needs of jazz musicians and guarantees ease of playing while preserving resonance and brilliance of tone, two essential elements for this style of music.

A traditional and eco-friendly process.
From planting the reeds to packaging them in flow packs that protect the reeds from humidity variations, Vandoren controls every stage of production of its famous reed blades. Cut by hand, the canes are carried on the backs of men to the edge of the reed bed. They are then stripped, sun-dried, sawn, bowed, tabled, bevelled, etc. No fewer than fifteen distinct production stages produce a considerable volume of reed waste, which is reused as fertiliser for the reed beds or as fuel to heat the factory.
