Play better with the second one

With the Genos 2, Yamaha presents the second Generation of the successful arranger workstation for solo entertainers and stage musicians. The concept with the clear, uncluttered control panel and the large 9" touchscreen has been retained and further improved in terms of ergonomics, as the panel has now been built into the housing at an angle. This makes it much easier to read, even in brightly lit surroundings. The revised and improved hardware of the Genos 2 is characterized by robustness and high-quality components throughout. In addition to the even sharper mini display, the faders and encoders underneath have been fitted with LED displays to perfect the visual Feedback. The semi-weighted 76-key FSX keyboard is capable of polyphonic aftertouch. A new addition is the Chord Looper, which records the playing on the keyboard in real time and enables easy implementation in the current Style. Of the 800 styles, 250 have been created from scratch and, thanks to the Dynamic Styles technology, achieve a liveliness that could previously only be achieved by a band. Furthermore, the styles are divided into three intros, four main variations, a break and three endings. In addition to the number of effects, there have also been some changes: Steinberg has been won over for the excellent reverb, alias Revelation Reverb.

The sound generation of the Genos 2

With 384 voices, the Genos 2 surpasses its predecessor by an impressive 128 voices, while the super-powerful processor ensures the shortest possible response times when playing. The state-of-the-art sound generation consists of AWM stereo and FM synthesis. The AWM stereo engine offers an extremely successful all-round sound from music history with pretty much everything you would expect from a full-fledged workstation. The FM-Synthese comes from the iconic Yamaha DX-7 from 1986 and is not based on samples. Thanks to this detail, authentic sounding 80s performances are easy for the Genos 2. The almost 2000 sounds include over 500 Super Articulations voices and 141 DX-7 FM sounds. The former offer tonally relevant details, which are primarily found in natural sounds such as eg. Winds or guitar at the touch of a button during live playing. Ambient drums are also part of the sound generation; for the first time in a workstation, they make it possible to adjust the atmosphere and depth of the drum tracks within the styles. Drum tracks can now develop their atmosphere in the back of the room or closer to the other instruments. When it comes to effects, the Genos 2 draws on the full range with hundreds of reverb, delay and modulation effects. EQs for each individual part and the sum are also included, as well as a master compressor. The vocal harmonizer adds additional voices to the vocals or acts as Vocoder for unusual vocal effects.

Sequencer, player and other live features

The live capability of the Genos 2 is further underlined by the dual player for MIDI and audio files. This is capable of playing back two songs simultaneously and crossfading them via a crossfader. The MIDI files are managed as usual with the 16-track MIDI sequencer/player, and individual tracks in MIDI songs can also be swapped as required. Another highlight is the SMF to STY Converter, which converts MIDI songs to Style files and allows you to work with the special Style features of Genos 2. The One Touch Setting (OTS) provides four sounds matching the selected Style. There is hardly a quicker way to add tonal variations. The Multi Pad Control section offers over 500 presets with sounds stored in groups that can be fired off spontaneously. Various voice, Style and variation combinations including all MIDI settings for external devices can be quickly saved and called up in the Registration Memory. Audio and MIDI can be transmitted in both directions via Bluetooth. This is particularly practical for musicians who use the Genos 2 eg. as a master keyboard on a DAW or want to share the next song on the Internet with the free Rec'n'Share.

Real-time faders & controllers with display

The nine faders with the display strip above them, which shows the current assignment of the faders, are absolutely suitable for performance and can be switched for numerous tasks. For quick adjustments, you are right on target and have everything under control. In addition, there are six freely assignable encoders, which provide a beautiful optical Feedback display via an LED ring.

Everything at a glance with the 9" touchscreen

The particularly large, anti-glare 9" touchscreen is the central control element of the Genos 6. The touchscreen provides access to all functions and features in razor-sharp image quality and displays all relevant information graphically. Anything that is not available as a button, controller or fader on the user interface can be accessed with just a touch of a finger. The angled arrangement of the display in the housing of the Genos 2 now ensures that the screen is very easy to read.

Professional connections

The rear of the Genos 2 is pleasingly versatile. In addition to the keyboard, there are the Expression, Sustain and Art1 foot pedal connections. This increases the expressive possibilities on the keyboard with the usual pedals. MIDI is communicated via two In and Out DIN pairs as well as USB. This is perfect for anyone who wants to operate additional equipment such as a second keyboard manual, a rack expander or a DAW with the Genos 2. In its capacity as a complete all-in-one Live instrument, audio inputs are of course a must! On the input side, the keyboard scores with a Stereo line input and a microphone input with XLR combo socket and phantom power. For signal output, there are six 6.3 mm jack sockets, which can be assigned to the tracks and players of the Genos 2 in three stereo pairs respectively Main and four Sub outputs. Furthermore, audio is exchanged with the DAW as a stereo track via USB. There is a USB device connection for expanding the memory and connecting additional keyboards and controllers. The HDMI video output displays song lyrics on a connected TV or projector.
